Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2014 Application Deadline is Coming Soon!!
Interested in becoming known as one of Kentucky’s Best Places to Work and joining the ranks of some of Kentucky’s most successful companies? If so, don’t miss the deadline to apply for this prestigious award!
Why should you be a part of this? How about heightened company pride or the public relations and marketing advantage? Becoming a Best Place to Work increases employee morale and retention as well as improving the company’s reputation in the state!
How does it work? The assessment is a two-part process designed to gather data about each participating company. In part one, the employer completes the Employer Questionnaire detailing company policies, practices, benefits and demographics. In part two, up to 400 employees of the company complete a satisfaction survey.
Winners are announced at the Best Places to Work Awards Gala which is held annually in April. All participating companies will receive a world-class assessment detailing the company’s employee responses along with the Kentucky Benchmark Reports.
Registration deadline: October 25, 2013

National FFA - Volunteer Opportunity
The National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Convention will be held in Louisville on October 30-November 2. During the convention, there are a number of competitions planned which will require a lot of volunteer judges throughout our community. We are looking for volunteers in the Human Resources field to serve as judges for the Job Interview contest. This contest evaluates members on all steps that make a good interview – filling out the job application, cover letter, resume, networking skills, interview and follow-up letter.
We need 30 volunteers to help us judge during the preliminary face-to-face interviews on Wednesday, October 30 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at The Brown Hotel. All you need is experience in interviewing.
Our greatest need for volunteers is on Wednesday afternoon; however, there are also a few other opportunities for judges. We need a couple of volunteers on Wednesday, October 30 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. to conduct phone interviews.
Four judges are needed on Thursday, October 31 from 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. for final interviews.

Strategic HR - The Normal Play Book Won’t Get You There Keynote
This session will identify the top six areas Human Resources needs to change in order to gain credibility and prevent eroding HR's effectiveness. Learn what management (the customers) really wants from HR and how to astound them regarding what HR can bring to the table. Look at contributing in several very different ways so HR is seen as a real asset to their organization. Participants can become the future of HR by adjusting their current mindset and re-aligning all that they do in order to deliver what their organizations need today...and a decade from now.
Participants will:
- Change their mind set about what initiatives HR should pursue;
- Review business/organizational trends and statistics that underscore the need for a different type of HR in the future;
- Focus on talent management and skill development;
- Pursue initiatives that are specifically tailored for the long-term needs of their organizations;
- Use benchmarking as a beginning to formulating strategy, not as a final work product;
- Take risks; and
- Really understand what it means to learn about the “business” of their organizations.
Once Upon a Time - Using Story Telling to Build Core Values, Communicate Ethics, Inspire Teamwork and Develop Positive Culture! - Workshop
Since the beginning of time, human beings have employed story telling as a means to build a common sense of purpose among groups or communities as well as to illustrate complex concepts. When it is done properly, this powerful management tool can be used to increase teamwork, to move groups in a specific direction or to make individuals resilient when the mission or task becomes difficult. Learn how to use imagery to connect with employees and coworkers on a deeper, emotional level rather than just a conceptual one. Mine the most powerful aspects of your organization’s culture or your management style in order to use it as a branding or marketing tool both internally and externally for your organization.
Participants learn to:
- Develop and coach other employees with effective workplace feedback scenarios;
- Stimulate creative business thinking using humor; Change the way they express themselves so that it dramatically improves employee engagement;
- Assist employees in embracing change as well as understanding and accomplishing the business goals of the organization;
- Build culture, core values and ethics by using true workplace stories; and Recruit strategic talent needed in order to sustain future growth.
