LSHRM Compassion in the Workplace Initiative Update

In January, LSHRM partnered with Metro Louisville to support its 10-year Compassionate City Campaign.  LSHRM’s role was to define compassion from a business perspective and to explore the role of compassion in the workplace.  In June, the LSHRM Compassion in the Workplace Project Team surveyed LSHRM members for feedback on organizational applications and examples of workplace compassion.  An overview of the survey results is available on the LSHRM website.

To learn  more about the survey and discuss the role of compassion within organizations, plan to attend the Project Team’s presentation at the KYSHRM State Conference, Wednesday, September 26, 2:30-4:00 p.m.  (The presentation has been preapproved for 1.5 HRCI Strategic Credit Hours).  Project Team presenters are LSHRM members:  Tiffany Cardwell, Rawleigh Richardson, Mary Rivard, Brad Shuck and Kelly Zeilman.

LSHRM Study Group

The LSHRM Study Group is back for Fall 2012! The Study Group meets on a weekly basis to review the SHRM Learning System as a means of studying for the PHR or SPHR certification exam.

If you are not familiar with these certifications, the PHR is a Professional in Human Resources and the SPHR is a Senior Professional in Human Resources. The material that is covered in these certification exams reviews knowledge in the six core areas of Human Resources:

  1. Business Management and Strategy
  2. Workforce Planning and Employment
  3. Human Resource Development
  4. Compensation and Benefits
  5. Employee and Labor Relations
  6. Risk Management

The Winter exam window runs from December 1st through January 31st. There are only two testing periods per year, so meeting application deadlines and reviewing the material is critical!

The LSHRM Study Group will meet at Webster University at 1031 Zorn Avenue, Suite 200. This is a FREE benefit for members of LSHRM. LSHRM is also able to offer the SHRM Learning System at a discounted rate for all Study Group participants.

The LSHRM Study Group will begin meeting on September 20th and the meetings will run weekly through November 29th (sole exception is September 27th due to the KYSHRM Conference).

If you are interested in joining the LSHRM Fall Study Group, you can sign up HERE.
